The following one-week courses are being offered this summer by Mount Laurel Community Education.  They will be taught by Mount Laurel 6th grade STEM teacher Nick Handley.  All classes will be taught in the Hartford STEM lab... a room that is set up to maximize student learning and enjoyment.

Coding Robotics

The courses are open to all students, ages 8-13, in the South Jersey area, not just Mount Laurel students.  So bring your friends and/or family and learn some new technology skills this summer.  Check out the offerings below.

 

So many things in our world are controlled by coding.  Have you ever wondered how it's done?  Join us in Coding this summer, and let’s have some fun finding out!
 
This beginner’s course teaches students how to code with visual (blockly) and text-based programming languages.  Students will explore a variety of programming tools using resources such as Code.org, Scratch, and CodeCombat.
 
There’s only 1 week available, so sign up early to secure your spot!
 
Week: July 8-12 from 10am-12pm
Fee: $150 per week
Maximum Number of Students: 16 students, each assigned to their own Chromebook

Self-driving cars are getting closer to becoming an everyday reality.  Have you ever wondered how they’re created? Join us in Robotics 1 this summer, and let’s have some fun finding out!
 
This beginner’s course teachers students how to build and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics kits.  Students will build and program robots that perform a variety of behaviors such as the self-driving car, the music player, or the dancing robot.
 
Choose which week you’d like to attend, but sign up early to secure your spot!
 
Weeks: July 8-12 from 12pm-2pm, July 22-26 from 10am-12pm, Aug 5-9 from 10am-12pm
Fee: $150 per week
Maximum Number of Students: 16 students, working in 8 pairs of 2, each pair sharing a MacBook and MINDSTORMS NXT robotics kit
Additional Information: Students may bring a video recording device to capture their creations.

Did you enjoy what your learned in Robotics 1 or Mount Laurel 6th Grade STEM?  Would you like to create robots of your own choosing or design?  Join us in Robotics 2 this summer, and let's see what you can create!
 
This choose-your-own adventure style course allows students to build and program robots of their own choosing or design using LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics and resource kits.  Students will build and program robots from existing designs such as the catapult, dog sled team, electric guitar, puppy, scribble pad, etc; or they will build and program robots from designs created by their own imagination.
 
Choose which week you’d like to attend, but sign up early to secure your spot!
 
Weeks: July 22-26 from 12pm-2pm or Aug 5-9 from 12pm-2pm
Fee: $150 per week
Maximum Number of Students: 8 students, each assigned their own MacBook, MINDSTORMS NXT robotics kit, and MINDSTORMS NXT resource kit
Additional Information: Students must have attended Robotics 1 or Mount Laurel 6th Grade STEM before attending Robotics 2. Students may bring a video recording device to capture their creations.

Each course costs $150 per week
Each course runs Monday through Friday
Each course runs for 2 hours daily for a weekly total of 10 hours
Each Coding course is limited to 16 students
Each Robotics 1 course is limited to 16 students
Each Robotics 2 course is limited to 8 students
