LIBRARY MEDIA SCOPE AND SEQUENCE

The library media curriculum differs in many ways from other academic curricula. Since stated goals are applicable at every grade level, the scope and sequence is not presented in its traditional form. Implementation of these goals, and the objectives for each grade level, increase in sophistication and require a higher level of thinking from the students.

In grades K through 4, concepts and skills are presented at a concrete level. These skills are extended and applied with increasing independence by students in grades 5 through 8.   As students progress through the grade levels, library media skills become more highly integrated with other curricular areas requiring students to assess, evaluate and make decisions about the use of appropriate literacy skills and resources in a project based curriculum.
