Community Education Program

The Community Education Program offers a wide variety of academic, vocational, avocation, enrichment, and recreational courses and activities for the preschool through senior citizens. The Community Education Program is a self-supporting program offering over 175 programs throughout the year. Residents may direct comments, suggestions, or interest in teaching or participation, to:

The Mount Laurel Community Education department offers a variety of non-credit, fee-based courses for community residents of all ages. Classes are offered during the day and evening hours.

In addition, the following activities are coordinated through the Community Education Department:

STEP Art and STEP Theater
The Special Talented Enrichment Programs (STEP) are designed to meet the needs of students who demonstrate exceptional talent in music and art. The programs attempt to extend and enrich students’ skills and abilities in their identified areas of talent. It is available to children of Mount Laurel families in grades 5-8.


Summer STEP Theater Workshop
This summer program, for all Mount Laurel children in grades five through eight, is held during late June and July. All children who participate receive a part in the musical production that culminates the workshop.


Summer Day Camp
This camp is sponsored by the Community Education Program and is open to children of township residents from ages 6 to 11. The camp operates at the Larchmont School, typically beginning one week after the closing of school and lasting eight weeks. There is an early drop-off and late pick-up service available for an additional fee. The camp focuses on a variety of activities designed to interest children at the various age levels.


Tutoring
After-school tutoring is available for a fee at all Mount Laurel Schools for students in grades 1 though 8 in need of assistance. Tutoring is provided by certified teachers in small groups. Grouping is by grade level and skill area whenever possible. Instruction is provide in reading, language, mathematics, and study skills.


Extended Day Care
A self-supporting program, Extended Day Care accommodates working parents by providing school aged child care before and after school in the district’s elementary schools for children grades K-6. The program features flexible scheduling, allowing parents to leave their children for varying hours and days. Homework help, athletic activities, arts and crafts, and occasional field trips are offered for the children in an informal setting.
