Why are notices sent so late?

I was just wondering why the classroom assignments are always sent out so late in the summer?  It really can be a hassle for parents when they are given such a short amount of time to pick up all the necessary school supplies since different teachers/teams have different required supplies.  By the time the classroom assignments are given most of the sales on school supplies are over and a lot of the supplies are harder to get.  In the future can you please consider sending these classroom assignments at the beginning of August so the parents don't have to rush and then run to several different stores, because all the supplies have been picked through.

We understand the anxiety that occurs at this time of year, and your need to have real information with which you can encourage your child and get them motivated and excited about school. It has always been a concern for parents that our class listings are not generated until the end of the summer. Several years ago, we would post the class assignments on the school doors. That happened over Labor Day weekend, and it was very highly anticipated.

We point that out because our notification has always been at summer's end. We have new registrations all summer, as parents of school-aged children will almost always make a housing move during the summer months. We have students transferring out at the very same time, so gathering as much information as we can as early as possible, we formulate all of the classes for the coming year during the weeks of summer.

We believe what complicated the situation this year were the new orientation programs for 5th and 7th graders. Because of our large numbers at those grade levels, the events were broken-down by teams, and it was necessary to know which team your child would be on this year in order to know when to attend orientation. Add to that an error in a flyer we posted on our website regarding the orientation programs that stated that class assignments would be mailed on August 13. That was in error and should not have been posted, as we would not have had all scheduling done by that date. Central registration was ongoing until last week.

In the end, though, we confused you, and many others. We cannot promise you that our notification will come any earlier next year, but we can tell you that we have learned a great deal by experience this summer, and we will consider how our every action may impact parents next year. This should not be a stressful time for you and your children, but rather an exciting time, and we apologize sincerely if we caused you anxiety by our actions.
