Investigations instruction emphasizes computational fluency of whole number operations, the structure of the base-ten number system, the meaning of fractions, representing and describing data, examining 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes, measuring and changes over time. These are all in line with NJ Standards. In addition, the program seeks to develop these understandings in ways that are relevant and meaningful to young students ... ways that they connect with in an authentic manner whether they be games, data gathering about things they are familiar with, etc.
Investigations also seeks to have students reason mathematically and to represent their mathematical thinking by using models, diagrams, representations and graphs. All these skills are in line with NJ Standards and with quality inquiry-based instructional strategies.
