Health Information For Our Families
New Jersey law requires that we annually inform the parents of all sixth-grade students about the facts regarding meningococcal meningitis. Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges (the covering of the brain and spinal cord). Meningitis can be caused by infection from viruses and bacteria. These germs usually cause everyday illness, such as an ear infection or pneumonia.
The state's informational campaign is designed to stress the importance of good personal hygiene and also to advise parents of the symptoms, which are often misdiagnosed. The following fact sheets are in PDF format and have been supplied by the New Jersey Department of Health. We have added more links for additional information, but by all means consult your primary healthcare provider if you have specific questions regarding your family.
