Students will first warm up with an ascending/descending five note
major
scale pattern. I will play this downward chromatically till we
find their
low note, then upward chromatically till we find their high note.
Next the student will sing two major scales - a low and a high.
These will
be unaccompanied on "ah". Moderate tempo, quarter notes.
Next the student will sing a chromatic scale from C to G (eight
half
steps) on "ah".
Next the student will sing the Star Spangled Banner. I have the
music as
well as the piano accompaniment on CD. I have it in A and in C.
Next the student will sing a four bar sight singing exercise. I
play it
three times and the student sings it back unaccompanied on
"ah" on the
fourth time.
Next the student completes a 25 question music theory quiz. Note
recognition in treble and bass clef, dynamic symbols,
expression/articulation markings (staccato, accents, slur/ties,
etc.) and
the four voice parts will be included.
