Mount Laurel Township is strategically located in one of the fastest growing areas of the Greater Philadelphia Region. It is the fourth largest municipality in Burlington County, New Jersey with convenient access to major thoroughfares and public transportation to Philadelphia and New York City. Mount Laurel was named by Hannah Gillingham, a teacher in the Friends Meeting House School in the mid-1800's. She admired the laurel growing in profusion on the Mount outside the school and suggested the name Mount Laurel, which became official with the opening of the first post office on January 13,1849.
